Purcie Bennett-Nickerson is an environmental lawyer and policy expert with nearly two decades of experience in environmental conservation and science. She founded Bennett Nickerson Environmental Consulting (BNEC) to advance the long-term sustainability of Atlantic Ocean ecosystems through science-driven policy development and strategic advocacy.
Before launching BNEC, Purcie served as an environmental policy and science expert at The Pew Charitable Trusts in Washington, D.C., where she focused on ecosystem-based fisheries management, the protection of forage species and coastal habitats, and reducing bycatch of endangered marine life. Earlier in her career, she co-founded Cottonwood Environmental Law Center in Bozeman, Montana, where she served as Executive Director and Staff Attorney, building a foundation in environmental litigation and advocacy.
Purcie works closely with the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, New England Fishery Management Council, and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission to shape policies that reflect the best available science and consider the broader marine ecosystem. Her ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks, combined with her legal background and deep understanding of fisheries science, makes her an invaluable collaborator for projects requiring policy analysis, regulatory engagement, and ecosystem-based management strategies.

Aaron Kornbluth is the founder of akorn environmental, a consulting firm based in the Washington, D.C. area that works at the nexus of science, policy, and outreach to benefit marine and coastal resources. With deep experience in federal and state policy development, Aaron has spent his career advancing conservation outcomes through strategic engagement with decision-makers and diverse stakeholder groups.
Aaron has worked extensively with federal and state decision-makers to develop new policies and protect foundational laws like the Magnuson-Stevens Act. His work has advanced forage fisheries management, supported coastal habitat restoration efforts including oyster reefs and seagrass meadows, and expanded conservation aquaculture. He brings particular expertise in translating complex scientific information—including fishery stock assessments and regulatory frameworks—into clear, actionable insights for conservation organizations, government agencies, and advocacy groups.
His ability to analyze policy landscapes, build effective coalitions, and communicate across diverse audiences—from government officials and Tribal Nations to scientists, fishers, and watermen—makes him an ideal collaborator for projects requiring strategic policy development, stakeholder engagement, and science-based advocacy.
